![]() Tom graduated from the University of Denver in 1973 with a BA in psychology, followed by medical school at the University of Colorado. Tom completed training in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology at the University of Minnesota in 1983, and was on faculty there for one year before moving to the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and was an attending in the cardiac intensive care unit from 1984-1992. His colleagues describe Tom as a superb clinician, beloved mentor, and gifted teacher. He also liked to travel and especially enjoyed time in the Rocky Mountains hiking and skiing. Tom was an avid reader on a variety of subjects, a diligent cyclist, and car enthusiast. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, a kind, generous, creative thinking person. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eunice Kulik, niece Julia (LeGolvan) Fleming, and Ron Jungling. Tom is also survived by “Best Bud” Fred Scherrer Jr, Dennis Scherrer of Denver, Colorado, and Pat Jungling and family of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Tom is survived by his loving wife Linda Kulik, beloved daughter Elise McCoy, her husband Joey McCoy and two beautiful grandchildren Trey and Dante McCoy of Ann Arbor, Michigan, his sister Jean LeGolvan and her husband Chris LeGolvan of Morrison, Colorado and their son Joey and his wife Cynthia LeGolvan of Lakewood, Colorado. Tom was born on Augin Denver, Colorado to the late Henry and Eunice Kulik. Thomas Jonathan Kulik, MD, age 69, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January 6, 2021. Tom’s many contributions included advancing the knowledge of pulmonary circulation, cardiac critical care, and more recently, the history of innovation in the field of congenital heart disease. Tom served as Interim Chief and Director of Cardiovascular Critical Care from 2012-2016. Tom was the Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and was an attending in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Inpatient Unit from 2008-present. After living and working in Ann Arbor for 14 years, Tom served as Director of the Division of Cardiology at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center from 2006-2008, then returned to Boston Children’s Hospital where he was a Senior Associate in Cardiology and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Tom served as Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs and in 2003 as Interim Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. He was the Amnon Rosenthal Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases from 2001-2006. He joined the University of Michigan’s Division of Pediatric Cardiology as Director of the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in 1992, advancing to Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases in 1999. Tom was a NIH funded basic scientist who studied pulmonary vascular medicine.
